Bake a difference for SPCA’s annual Cupcake Day

New Zealand’s very own SPCA is calling for Kiwi home bakers to roll up their sleeves and get behind the annual SPCA Cupcake Day fundraiser. On Monday 2nd November schools, workplaces and communities will see cupcakes of all shapes, sizes and flavours being sold as bakers whip up their best creations, all for a good cause. And because of the uncertainty this year has brought, we can all agree there’s no better time than now to share some sweetness and pawsitivity to the thousands of animals in need across New Zealand.

Over the years, the Cupcake Day event has raised close to $3.2 million, helping tens of thousands of animals that unfortunately come through SPCA’s doors in need of care, shelter and veterinary treatment. The event is the last major fundraising push for the animal welfare charity and with less opportunity this year to get out and about with roadside coin buckets, the SPCA are hoping for more cupcakes to be baked and sold than ever before. So keen baking enthusiasts, the SPCA need you! Get stuck into the kitchen this weekend and bake a difference for the neglected animals across our country.

SPCA CEO Andrea Midgen says baking a dozen cupcakes and fundraising is a small act of kindness that has a big impact for the animals in care at the SPCA. “We are so grateful to all the animal lovers who bake so passionately for a wonderful cause.”

We know people are hungry to give back to their animal friends by doing something positive, and Cupcake Day is such a sweet way to do this. Every year, home bakers outdo themselves and we can’t wait to see what amazing flavoured cupcakes and impressive decorated creations are whipped up this year!” says Ms Midgen.

Funds raised from the SPCA Cupcake Day will be used across the country to aid in rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals in need with every dollar raised, making a difference. $50 helps microchip a dog, $150 helps an inspector rescue an animal and $250 helps give an animal a warm bed for a week. Every little bit truly does help!
