Quirky Campers – Our Kind Of Dog Friendly Holiday

There’s a reason New Zealand has been voted the 7th most popular country in the world and it’s not because we invented the Pavlova (are there any Aussies reading this?). Undoubtedly, one of the biggest draw cards of our little country is the incredible scenery and superior quality of life. While there is something to be said for treating yourself to a high-end hotel stay, there’s nothing quite as liberating and memorable as exploring the country in a campervan. One day you could be waking up to the sound of the ocean and the next, the singing of native birds – all without needing to lug suitcases or navigate an airport! Great, right? On top of that, what if we said you could take your furry friend for the ride? You could say a dog friendly holiday like this is too good to be true but in fact, Quirky Campers makes it possible.

You may be thinking, what’s the catch? A huge cleaning fee at the end of your trip or perhaps an overpriced dog bond? No thank you. Quirky Campers are the real deal… with no additional charges they positively encourage you to bring your four-legged friend along for the ride! Dying to hear more? Read on, you won’t be disappointed.

Quirky Campers connects holidaymakers with owners of high quality, handcrafted campervans, so everyone can get the chance to explore New Zealand in a fun and unique way (dogs included). All campervans listed must meet a high standard of cleanliness, craftsmanship and safety – not to mention a certain level of character and charm. Think carved wooden cabinets, log burners, kitted out mini-kitchens and built-in dog beds – are you sold yet?

Originally a UK company, we have directors Leanne and Dan to thank for bringing Quirky Campers to New Zealand shores. Experienced campervanners from way back, these guys are well versed on any questions you may have. Friendly, fun and approachable, you can rest assured Leanne and Dan will help you plan an epic, stress-free, dog friendly holiday – even if you’re a first-timer.

In fact, if you’re a campervanning virgin, we recommend making Quirky Campers your first experience as these guys take dog-friendly campervanning to a whole new level. What’s more, they donate 10% of profits to charity and are committed to the Tiaki Promise, encouraging all travellers to care for our beautiful backyard. On their website they quote “For us, good business means looking after our people, our communities and our planet.” We could not be more supportive of their values and we know you’ll feel the same.

We started Dog Friendly New Zealand in 2018 hoping to find businesses just like Quirky Campers, like-minded people that are innately dog friendly, not just a neglected water bowl on show. As dog owners, we were disheartened by the number of places turning us down, campervans included! Quirky campers are a breath of fresh air and quite frankly, we’re here for it. Pull up for breakfast, road trip to a new town and experience our beautiful country with your dog by your side. We can guarantee you’re in for a trip your dog will never forget.

With something for everyone, holidaying in a campervan is not just for the whippersnappers amongst us. Quirky Campers makes it possible anyone to explore the country, with vans of all shapes and sizes available. The majority of their campers are dog friendly, meaning you can FINALLY travel the country with your furry companion. No accommodation worries here – just chuck your essentials on board and you’re away.

If you ask us, Barbara is the stand-out for dog lovers, flaunting a built-in pet bed with outdoor access, so your dog can lounge in style. She’s also a great example of what you can expect from a Quirky Camper with her sunny colour scheme, charming design and homely decor. You can tell Babs will offer you a great time, and the rest of her gang is no different.

Take Ivan for example. This guy is a little more understated – he’s the friend who’s got his sh*t together. With an urban dusky blue and mustard colour scheme, this guy offers a ready-to-light wood burner and a complimentary bottle of wine – cheers Ivan! In the mornings, pull the awning and enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee outside, taking in the ocean/rural/bush view you’ve chosen to enjoy that day. Who said campervanning can’t be glamorous?
